Unbound Edition Press today announced it will publish Notes of an Aging Pervert by Janet W. Hardy. She is the acclaimed author or coauthor of more than a dozen groundbreaking books on relationships and sexuality, including The Ethical Slut (Random House, Celestial Arts), which has sold more than 300,000 copies to date. For more than 25 years, she was the editor-in-chief of Greenery Press, the publishing house she founded.

Hardy’s previous books have earned recognition from the Lambda Literary Awards, the Bisexual Book Awards, and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. She has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Janus, and will be recognized with the Race Bannon Advocacy Award from the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom in the fall of 2022.

Notes of an Aging Pervert is the first in a new series of monographs from Unbound Edition Press, with Hardy setting the fearless tone for the titles to come. “Some of the ways in which aging affects me are the same as for anybody. A wrinkle is a wrinkle is a wrinkle,” Hardy said. “But approaching a scene designed to end with me sobbing, incoherent, and outside my own skin changes the way I feel about age. Imagining my own deathbed, and the lovers and ex-lovers, friends and family I hope will hold me as I move on, also changes the way I feel about age. Planning the removal of my breasts – not because I’m sick and not because I’m nonbinary, but simply because I’m bored with them and want them gone – changes how I feel about age, too.”

Patrick Davis, publisher at Unbound Edition Press, said, “Our commitment to publishing literary dissent from fearless writers runs deep. In an era of banned books and draconian laws meant to control women, we can’t think of anything more important than launching our monograph series with this title. Janet Hardy paved the way for so many other voices, and she is nowhere close to finished with that work. Her monograph on aging feels like the next step for an entire generation set free by her earlier books.”

Hardy, who also is an accomplished illustrator, will create approximately a dozen drawings for the title. “The body of the aging and the body of the text are entwined throughout Notes of an Aging Pervert,” said Davis. “We are want them to embrace each other, engage in delightful dialogue, and seduce the voyeuristic reader together and joyfully.”

“I’ve spent time as a heterosexual and a queer, as a polyamorist and a married person and a celibate, as a woman and as something beyond gender,” Hardy said. “I’m a parent, a writer, and a teacher about all kinds of weird sex and relationships. As I’ve moved in and through these identities and more, the one thing that hasn’t changed is that I keep on getting older.” Notes of an Aging Pervert is, in Hardy’s words, for “anyone who’s stuck in the current of time, but swimming upstream against any or all of the other currents that tug us off course.”

Notes of an Aging Pervert is presently scheduled for release on September 5, 2023, with an audiobook to follow in March 2024.
