As expected from blogging veteran Tavi, Rookie is a breath of fresh air. Wise beyond her years, and channeling the true spirit of now-defunct Sassy Magazine, Tavi speaks directly to her peers – savvy, intelligent teenage girls. In a time (ahem, 2011) when JCPenney and Forever 21 are marketing ‘Too Pretty to Do Homework’ and ‘Allergic to Algebra’ shirts to teenage girls, Rookie is timed right. Yes, both retail outlets pulled the shirts. But their very existence begs the overarching question: who thought they were a good idea in the first place? Whomever they are should take some time to read Rookie and learn the difference between what’s sassy and Sassy.
