I'd never even considered this, but maybe the boys from Mountain View really are this smart. It's hard for me to believe, but the idea is plausible. Like he says, "Letting YouTube fight this battle alone with their own lawyers might have resulted in a very public and unnecessary loss that would have crippled Google’s video ambitions and possibly caused collateral damage to a bunch of related industries (especially search)."

Google can fight this battle and possibly win. And that would be good for all...but most especially Google.
