The beloved Atari brand has been beaten and bruised since its heyday in the '70s and early '80s. After a number of name and ownership changes, Atari was finally bought out by Infogrames Entertainment in April 2008.

Atari was my life for about three years in the early 80's. Even Circus Atari, which involved clowns. Missile Command was pretty much a letdown, though. Just shoot the same stupid things, over and over and over. On the day we got it, I played it nonstop for 7 hours until I scored a million and the game ended. Yeah, money well spent, Mom and Dad. But Adventure? Be still my heart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE6MSXqouSk

Pitfall was one of my favorites! I was born in 1982, toward the end of Atari's glory days, but my parents wouldn't let us have any other systems. So while everyone else was playing Super Mario Bros. on their Nintendos, I was playing Crackpots, Frogger, Kaboom, Seaquest and, of course, Pac-Man. No wonder I was a dork in school. I still have the whole system and all the games. I wonder if it still works...

So sad that such a strong brand couldn't keep up with technology changes. Kind of reminds me of Kodak or Polaroid.
graphically stunning
