social networking + online shopping = love PDF E-mail

I am a sucker for peer recommendations. Whether provided by epinions.com, a CNET.com editor, fellow amazon.com consumers, a favorite blogger or my nearest and dearest friends, I rarely purchase a new product without scouring the Web for details about usability and reliability and to snag the best price for my soon-to-be cherished purchase.

I recently stumbled across a media release from ThisNext – “a product discovery and recommendation site led by social influencers” – and after visiting a few lists and a few other social shopping sites (Kaboodle.com, Stylehive.com and Wists.com), I am completely obsessed. I am not certain if it is the sheer variety of products or witty commentary that has me hooked.

I do not personally subscribe or participate in other social networks, although I absolutely value the collaborative nature of such sites and the resulting online dialogue. However, the power of suggestion, enabled by the fashion-conscious, influential users of social shopping sites takes digital word-of-mouth to the next level. I find that intriguing. Don’t you?
