Well, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care sure doesn’t. The owners of this company put a premium on sustainability – not only with regard to the products they source and sell, but also in their company’s mission and values – rare in today’s marketplace.
I am drawn to Dr. Hauschka Skin Care not only because of its mission and values, but because its owners so creatively ensured the corporate culture’s sustainability through an interesting transaction. They essentially eliminated their ownership in Hauschka and then placed the operating company inside a non-profit organization. As a result, the company acts like a trust, but has no trustees or beneficiaries, which makes it virtually untouchable by the major beauty players. Brilliant.
Companies often profess their mission and vision at inception and even post them on their website, but do they really live them? Some do, some don’t – certainly Dr. Hauschka does. Ah, but wouldn’t it be great if they all did? The result: an easily navigable marketplace where purchases would be driven by conviction and protected from price erosion. Happy days for all.
