Underestimating the power of the book...
written by Eric Raymond, May 10, 2007 02:05 PM
Okay, Bill Gates, I imagine a lot of what you say is true, but I take exception with this:

"Other Gates predictions ranged from 3-D technology becoming more commonplace on Web sites to the elimination of textbooks for schoolchildren, who he believes will begin carrying digital reading tablets of some sort. Reading is going completely online, he said."

Call me naive, but I've never had a book crash. It's the most stable technology in the world, requires no power, and the interface is the most intuitive I've ever come across. Storage and portability will continue to get better, but until they reach visual resolution equal to the printed page (and the feel of the paper under my finger), Jansport has nothing to worry about. Those backpacks will be swollen.
