UB40…I Be Shocked You’re Back PDF E-mail

I don’t intend to keep harping on venture capital issues in my posts, but when I saw this article, I just had to comment. The merger of culture and high-stakes business? Fascinating…if they can pull it off.

A venture capital firm out of London is resuscitating past musical acts, such as UB40. In fact, UB40 recently appeared on the finale of America’s Got Talent. Did their venture capital partner, Ingenious Media, have a hand in this appearance? Maybe. Will it get them attention they need to gain traction in their comeback? Not likely.

While I understand that venture capital firms do, in consultant speak, “deep dives” on prospective clients’ industries, how well do they know music? And, how connected are they? I guess money talks, and venture capital firms could just pay off insiders. Either way, I am interested in seeing if their investment yields a substantial return.

So, who’s next to make a comeback with the help of a venture capital firm? Milli Vanilli? Oh, sorry, that was inappropriate. Right Said Fred? 4 Non Blondes?

“Yo, I’ll tell you what I want what I really really want”…not them.  Unfortunately, the Spice Girls don’t need a venture capital firm to make a comeback.  Troubling.

I'm all for it. Enjoyed "Bands Reunited" on VH1. Can't say I'm that excited about UB40, but Peter Gabriel, hell yeah. Though I thought he was already going to be resurrected a while back for a Genesis reunion. Either way, if it takes venture capital firms to make it happen, cool.
