Alltop: Am I the Last to Know?

Does everybody already know about this wonderful site, which provides massive amounts of content “aggregation without the aggravation,” as the Alltoppers say?  It’s new to me — but then again, much is.

All-around inspired and inspiring fellow Guy Kawasaki is publishing Alltop .  Does everybody already know about this wonderful site, which provides massive amounts of content “aggregation without the aggravation,” as the Alltoppers say?  It’s new to me — but then again, much is.

I am particularly turned on by the site’s declaration that its intention is to serve as a starting point, not a destination.  So much of the Web has become boring as consumer product companies and megamedia moguls aim to build “destination sites.”  Boring.  Old.  Kawasaki + Company are providing a content utility of all the best stuff “out there” that we already know about, and leading us to some new things as well.  Does this grow into the next big search play, jumping past traditional notions of search and towards the semantic web?  Seems Alltop is creating c-o-n-t-e-x-t first, a soil in which meaningful search could grow.  Sponsored content, alas, is also already part of the mix.

Regardless, Alltop is one of my new favorite sites.  And it proves that Web 2.0 can be functional, simple AND beautiful at the same time.  Designers and geeks take note.
